2001 Environmental Grant
In 2001 Highlands was awarded The Richard Dunlap Memorial Environmental Grant. On the edge of Bread Lock Park a small stream runs through a deep ravine. As is so often the sad case, this stream ravine has been used by the local people as a dump. Large appliances, tires, and even an entire truck chassis had been thrown into the Creek. Highlands used the grant money to purchase a heavy winch to remove the largest pieces from the ravine.
We would like to thank Mr. Bob Shandor for his help in having the truck chassis torched into manageable pieces. We also thank Gene and George Smith Sanitation for the donation of a 13 yard dumpster for the removal of the debris.
